ENDELEA SUPPORTS
JOURNEY ON, AN ARTWORK BY VALERIE ASIIMWE AMANI
Valerie Asiimwe Amani is a woman artist living and working in Dar es Salaam.
Self-taught, she defines herself as an “artistic explorer”, because her multimedia approach incorporates textile, poetry, moving image and digital collage. We chose to collaborate with her because her work boldly deals with strong themes such as feminism and women's rights, opening new perspectives for Tanzania.
For the Endelea Supports Black Art capsule, she wrote a poem and created an artwork to remind us to stay true to our journeys and reach towards our higher selves.
THE NAFASI ART SPACE IN DAR ES SALAAM
The Nafasi Art Space is a vibrant center for contemporary art in Dar es Salaam. It is a platform for artists and performers, a place where they can find inspiration, create, learn, exhibit and meet.
Here we discovered Valerie's art; in the same place the Milanese studio Press Press held a screen printing workshop together with Uhuru Republic, a collective of Italian and Tanzanian artists who aim to do, through music, what Endelea does through fashion.
Buying a t-shirt, you are supporting the activities of Uhuru Republic at Nafasi Art Space, helping us to come full circle.
